- Find the Cause First
Check where the door is sticking:
Top edge → Door or frame may have shifted.
Side edge → Hinges may be loose.
Bottom edge → Floor swelling or door sagging.
Latch side → Strike plate may need adjustment.
Use a pencil to mark the areas where the door rubs against the frame. - Tighten the Hinges
Use a screwdriver to tighten all hinge screws.
If screws keep turning, replace them with longer screws (at least 2½”) to grip the wall stud — this often fixes sagging immediately. - Plane or Sand the Sticking Area
Remove the door (if needed) and use a hand plane or sandpaper on the marked area.
Sand a little at a time, test the fit, then repaint or seal to prevent moisture absorption. - Control Moisture
Wooden doors often swell in humid weather.
Use a dehumidifier or keep windows open for airflow.
